Introduction
It's a scientific fact that the nervous system controls every aspect of your body. Hinder this nerve supply to any part or organ and ill health can result. Nerve pressure can cause pain, numbness or weakness or the under-performance of organs and tissues.
A thorough examination helps locate areas of nervous system compromise. You will receive such an examination at the Spinal Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Blain will examine your spine checking for vertebra that have moved out of their proper positions or have become fixated (stuck) and do not move properly. This may cause muscles to become too tight or too weak. Discs, ligaments and other tissues can become inflamed. These can all lead to dis-ease and degeneration.
If problems are detected in the form of spinal biomechanics a specific, targeted and focused chiropractic adjustment may be prescribed. The intent is to reduce or eliminate the nervous system irritation and allow the nerve impulses or "life force" to return to full expression.
Health cannot possibly be in abundance if any one of the following essentials of life are impeded.
ESSENTIAL #1: Food - without proper supply of nourishment health and eventually life cannot be sustained.
ESSENTIAL #2: Water - without which man cannot survive more than a few days.
ESSENTIAL #3: Oxygen - without which life ceases after only minutes.
ESSENTIAL #4: NERVE IMPLUSE - without proper nerve supply from the brain and spinal cord to all tissue cells health is impeded and disease begins.
Treatment Methods At the Spinal Rehabilitation Center
Activator Technique -
The Activator is a hand held instrument that moves at approximately 0.02 of a second. The muscles contract at 0.45 of a second. Thus the adjustment is performed faster than the muscles can contract, leading to a very smooth and comfortable feeling. In other words it takes less pressure to adjust the spine.
Thompson Terminal Point -
When more kinetic energy is indicated in the drop table is utilized to enhance the smooth adjustment of a fixated vertebra.
Sacro-Occipital Technique (S.O.T.) -
S.O.T. is a full discipline specific category procedure that works with the "bodily subjected failure of function", due to wrong living habits and bad environment. In this technique the human mind provides clues to the doctor as to the patients needs.
High-Tech Computerized Analysis & Treatment
-
The adjustments are easy and gentle. It completely eliminates the fear that manual adjustments of the neck or back sometimes carry. It is fast, accurate and you can see the results on the computer screen. We are proud to be one of the relatively few chiropractic offices in the southern United States to utilize this new technology.
Distraction -
This technique is used for those patients that present themselves with "disc" problems. A fulcrum is used in order to apply an easy gentle traction to the intervertebral discs. This is done without the need for surgical intervention in most cases. I call this technique "THE SURGERY SAVER"!
Infratonic QGM -
Infratonic QGM is an electro-acoustical device to enhance deep relaxation and is closely associated with accelerated healing.
Inter-segmental Traction -
Passive movement of the spine significantly reduces perception of pain and relaxes the Para-spinal musculature. As a side note, my patients always ask if they can take this table home with them.
Cryotherapy -
This is used to reduce edema and extreme pain.
Hot Fomentation -
This is used when there is ischemia which is known to lead to hyper excitability of neural tissue which in turn increases muscle spasm activity.

Relaxation Therapy
Imagine this… You are sitting in a space-age massage chair that places your body in the ideal resting position. The session begins with a vibrating massage. You relax deeply, letting go of the day's cares and worries. Now the rollout beings. A light rolling motion sweeps gently down from your neck to your hips. Almost imperceptibly, you begin to feel these gentle stimulating modules on your Para spinal muscles. You marvel at how your tension feels like it's slipping away. Then the Indian Relaxation Therapy begins. It's like floating on a cloud… higher and higher. You realize that you haven't felt this good in years. Your stress and tension seems to have vanished!
It must be stated that the care at Dr. Blain's office makes chiropractic an essential, non-duplicative specialty in the care of neuro-musculo-skeletal problems for you and your loved ones.
High Tech Computerized Analysis and Treatment
Science Beyond Symptoms
At last aerospace technology has been developed and expanded into the chiropractic arena. Sensors are used to check the "exact motion defeats" of each vertebrae of your spine. This new high-tech computerized analysis and precision adjusting technology will allow you to see immediately the state of your condition by way of the computer screen. Imagine actually seeing and understanding exactly what is happening and how your treatment is improving your condition.
Over the centuries patients have attempted to determine or gauge their health by their symptoms. Symptoms are not a good gauge of a person's health. Many conditions have no apparent symptoms such as high blood pressure. Symptoms are often the last thing to appear and in the case of pain, the first to go away. Thus symptoms are notoriously inaccurate way to measure the correction of the underlying cause of any condition. With computerized analysis you will be able to see on the screen how much improvement you have experienced as well as how much more is needed. This new technology is a perfect blend of subluxation-based chiropractic and high tech science. If you have never tried this, you will be amazed at how effective this type of adjusting can be. Plus you will see improvement taking place.
The Snap, Crack and Pop Debate
While some patients enjoy having their neck cracked and their back popped (as they term adjustment) they are in the minority. Given the choice, most patients would prefer a method of adjusting that does not twist their neck or back and does not make a sound.
At the Spinal Rehabilitation Center we do traditional manipulation or adjusting by hand. In addition, we have incorporated into practice
HIGH TECH COMPUTERIZED ANALYSIS AND ADJUSTING INSTRUMENTS
. Once the fixation and misalignments of the spine have been determined, the instrument electronically produces repetitive, gentle pulsation designed to reduce the fixations and misalignments.
Treatments with the computerized adjusting instrument AVIOD the twisting, snapping and popping that may accompany manual adjusting. If you have not tried chiropractic because of the sound or fear that it may hurt - fear no more! Patients love it. Even little children love it!
Questions and Answers
Q:
Where does the computerized adjusting and analysis instrument stand with the FDA (Federal Drug Administration)?
A:
This instrument has received a thorough and complete review by both the Restorative Devices and the Orthopedic Devices Branches of the FDA. The official FDA approval usage is for musculoskeletal pain due to joint subluxation, restricted joint mobility, myofascial spasm, ligamentous strain, as well as the measurement of compliance (analysis).
Q:
Dr. Blain, do you really need a machine or computerized instrument to do the adjusting instead of your hands?
A:
Certainly I can use my hands to give the adjustment. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that… anymore than there is something wrong with sewing by hand, but these days most sewing is done by machines. Computers have replaced the abacus. As in many cases lasers have replaced the skilled hands of the surgeon. In some specialties the computer guides the instrument and the doctor guides the computer. The same principle applies to chiropractic adjusting.
